Diatomaceous Earth- three reasons why you should be using it for your flock

Diatomaceous earth is finely ground and processed algae that has been fossilized, even though that may seem weird there are so many great uses for it!

You can use it as a natural dewormer!

By feeding diatomaceous earth to your flock you can naturally deworm them, and best of all it is one of the safest ways to deworm!

You can use it to get rid of lice, mites and any other pest

One of the most common uses for D.E. (diatomaceous earth) is to get rid of lice or mites. Lice and Mites can do a lot of damage to your flock if it’s not dealt with, so by using D.E. you can get rid of them for good! We have also used it on fire ants and it does a great job, and best of all you don’t have to worry about using any harmful chemicals. Diatomaceous earth will kill insects by basically drying them up because it absorbs all their oils.

You can use it to help control any bad odor

Diatomaceous earth will help absorb moisture, and any smelly odor. It is a great and effective way to keep your coop from smelling bad.

How to use diatomaceous earth

If your wanting to use it as a natural dewormer for your flock then simply add some to their feed.

To eliminate mites and lice you should dust some on their dust bath, coop, and nesting boxes to kill them. Or if you have any other pests just sprinkle it directly on them, it will most likely take anywhere from 1-5 days to completely get rid of them.

If you are wanting to use it to help control the odor then add it to the coop, run, or any place that they hang out. D. E. will not completely get rid of the smell it will only help with it, so to keep your coop from smelling it needs to be kept clean and dry.

Those are just some of the many uses for D.E.
