How to raise happy and healthy chickens

In order to have happy chickens you must have healthy chickens. If you don’t have healthy chickens, then raising them is not going to be very fun. They may cost you more money and you will definitely not enjoy raising them. So I am going to share with you some of my tips and tricks to raising happy and healthy chickens!

Provide them a spacious coop

It is a very common occurrence that people will overcrowd their coop. In fact, I have even been guilty of this. When we lived in the city I bought a coop that was not the proper size for my six hens, it was way too small. My hens also didn’t have access to free-ranging so there were a lot of fights that kept happening because of boredom. If you need to prevent boredom then read here. So just make sure that your chickens have enough space in their coop.

Feed them healthy and nutritious foods

The better you feed them the healthier they will be! And remember that what you feed them will become part of their egg in a way. So the more healthy and nutritious food you feed your flock the more healthy and nutritious their eggs will be. This is one of the best ways to have healthy chickens.

Be sure to provide a dust bath for them

Chickens need to dust bath to clean their feathers. Dust bathing helps them prevent parasite infestations and it will also help them to stay cool in the summer! If you don’t have a dust bath area then you could easily build one out of an old garden bed. That is what we used for our chickens when we lived in the city and they loved it.

That was my three tips for having healthy and happy chickens! Make sure to comment any of your tips or tricks for raising happy and healthy chickens.
