This is the other breed that I started with when I first got chickens. The first two breeds were Barred Rocks and Buff Orpingtons. These three breeds were very fun to raise I enjoyed it a lot! Now time to get into raising the Prairie Bluebell Egger!
About the breed
Prairie Bluebell Eggers are a cross between a White Leghorn and an Araucana. Because of this mix, you will get a blue egg and a hen that produces a good amount! They lay an average of 280 eggs a year and begin laying around 5-6 months. This breed was first introduced in 2019 and is starting to become very popular.
They are a very fun breed with a great personality. Prairie bluebell eggers come in pretty much every color, my two girls are gray. Because of their small combs, they are not as susceptible to frostbite! Which is great for our climate. They are both cold and warm hardy and do well in both. Out of all of my breeds, this is one of my favorites.
I would recommend this breed to anyone looking for a great layer! And a bonus is their beautiful blue eggs!

If you were not wanting to order them then you could check with your local farm store and ask if they will be getting any in but otherwise I know that Hoover’s hatchery sells them online and they will ship them to you through the mail! I have 5 of them, I bought at Rural King in March. They are smaller than my other chickens and are slow growing and I have not gotten any eggs yet.

Yes, mine were slower at growing and started laying when they were almost six months. I bet that yours are getting close to laying!
