Fun chicken breeds that you may not know about

I absolutely love my hen named Cream Puff, she is a Polish and has the coolest looking head. Bella my Cochin also has cute-looking feet. What is a Polish and a Cochin you ask? Well in this article I will tell you all about them!

  • Polish

A Polish is a really funny looking chicken breed. They have these awesome poof heads full of feathers. I guarantee you that once you see these silly chickens that you will immediately fall in love with them. If you love how they look then you will for sure love their personality! My Polish is one of my favorite chickens, because of her personality and looks. Since she has a bunch of those feathers, she sometimes has trouble seeing so we go on a bunch of adventures helping her to find her way back home. To learn more about the Polish read here.

This is Cream Puff!
  • Cochin

These beautiful birds have the most adorable feet that are covered in feathers! They are stunning, and come in a variety of colors. I have a white Cochin named Bella and she is super calm, and adorable! When fully grown, Cochins can weigh up to 8 1/2 lbs for the females, and 13 lbs for the roosters! These gentle giants don’t lay eggs very often so they are used mainly as show birds.

  • Ayam Cemani

Ayam Cemani’s are one of the rarest breed of chickens. They are completely black, including their comb and waddle. This breed originated in Indonesia, and due to hyperpigmentation, this results in their comb, waddle, and beak being black! I sadly don’t have this breed but maybe someday I will!

  • Silkies

These fluffballs are one of the most adorable chickens ever (at least in my opinion!) They tend to be a quieter breed than most, so they are great for backyard flocks. Silkies have other unusual qualities besides the fur-like feathers, they have black skin and bones while most chickens have white. Usually, chickens have only four toes but Silkies have five. I really wish that I had this adorable-looking breed, so I hope that eventually, I can get one.

If you know about or own any other unusual breeds please share them with me in the comments below. I would love to hear what unusual breeds you have in your flock!
