The White Leghorn is a very popular chicken breed! So today I am going to tell you all about them!
About The Breed
There is a good reason why this breed is super popular. They lay a beautiful medium, white egg! In general White Leghorns tolerate both the cold and the heat, but they can struggle a bit in extreme cases. White leghorns are often crossed with other breeds. I have one of the crosses called a Prairie Bluebell Egger, it is a cross between the White Leghorn and an Araucana! They are super active birds which makes them great free-rangers! So if you have a free-range flock then this breed would make the perfect addition.

When will they start laying?
They will lay around 280-300 white eggs a year, making them excellent layers! White Leghorns begin laying when they are 4-5 months old. If you are wanting to know about some of the earliest producing breeds then read about them here.

Are they good for a backyard flock?
Yes, they do great in a backyard flock! White Leghorns have a very fun personality, so if you are wanting a silly chicken then be sure to add this breed to your list. They can be a little flighty so you might have to clip their wings.
If you have this breed then let me know in the comments what your opinion is!
