The Prairie Bluebell Egger- Breed Spotlight of the Month (May)

The Prairie Bluebell Egger is a newer breed that is becoming very popular!

About The Breed

Prairie Bluebell Eggers are a cross between a White Leghorn and an Araucana. This mix will give you a blue egg layer that lays a lot of eggs! This breed was first introduced in 2019 and is starting to become very popular. Prairie bluebell eggers come in pretty much every color, my two girls are gray. Because of their small combs, they are not as susceptible to frostbite! Which is great for our climate. They are both cold and warm hardy and do well in both.

When will they start laying?

They lay an average of 280 eggs a blue eggs a year and begin laying around 5-6 months.

Are they good for a backyard flock?

Yes, Prairie Bluebell Eggers are great in a backyard flock! They do tend to be a little flighty so you may need to clip their wings. To learn how to properly clip your wings you can read here.

I would recommend this breed to anyone looking for a great layer! And a bonus is their beautiful blue eggs!
