4 Ways to Keep Your Barn Cats Warm in the Winter- Without Using Electricity!

You are probably wondering how to keep your barn cats warm this winter, so I am going to share my three tips to keep them warm!

-Story Time!

Before I give my tips I want to share a story about how tough barn cats really are! One of our barn cats decided to go for an adventure the day before a snow storm came. The temperature dropped down to -15 degrees Fahrenheit, plus the winds were around 20-30 miles per hour, without including the gusts! Our cat was gone for a couple days during the storm, so we were getting worried about her, but she came back and was just fine! Cats are usually pretty smart and will find some kind of shelter when they feel like they need it!

-1 Provide them a dry and draft free area

My first tip is to provide your cats with a dry and draft free shelter. This can be a garage, barn, shed, or even a regular cat house. They just need something to get them out of the elements.

-2 Use straw bales to create wind blocks

Straw bales make awesome wind blocks for your cats, we place the straw bales around the outside of their houses. Our cats also like to lay on top of them when the sun is out!

-3 Make them a warm bed area with straw

Straw makes a wonderful, warm bed for barn cats! Make sure that you don’t use hay, because hay absorbs moisture and could potentially gets moldy, plus hay is for feeding not bedding. You can place the straw in all of you houses or shelters, and they will make it into a warm bed!

-4 Have more than one cat

When it gets cold outside your barn cats will snuggle together in the shelter that you have. This will make them extra warm because of their body heat!
