Since backyard chickens are becoming extremely popular now, I thought that it would be fun to give you my top breeds for a backyard flock!
-1 The Buff Orpington
This is actually one of the breeds that I had when we had a backyard flock! Buff Orpingtons make great backyard hens because they lay a good amount of eggs. If you would like to learn more about this breed I have a post about it here.
-2 The Barred Rock
The Barred Rock is another great choice for a backyard flock. This is one of the other breeds that I had as well! They are great layers and do well in a backyard flock. To learn more about this breed click the link here.
-3 The Olive Egger
Olive Eggers are a great choice for a backyard flock because they lay well and don’t take up to much space. A bonus with this breed is that they lay beautiful olive colored eggs. You can learn more about this breed here!
-4 The Prairie Bluebell Egger
This is one of my most favorite breeds! Prairie Bluebell Eggers lay a beautiful blue egg plus they produce a lot! They are a newer crossbreed and are perfect for a backyard flock! This is the other breed that we started with and I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants a good layer and beautiful blue eggs! If you would like to learn more about this breed you can here.
