If you are buying chickens for eggs then it may be helpful to know which will lay eggs the soonest. So I am going to give you five breeds that start laying eggs when they are just a few months old!
Barred Rocks-
This breed begins laying when they are only 4-5 months old! Which if you are wanting a chicken that starts laying early this would be one of the best! I have a post talking more in-depth with this breed here.
Golden Comets-
Golden comets can start laying as early as 4 months old! And on top of them starting to lay early they also lay an average of 330 eggs a year! The only downside to high production breeds like this one is that they won’t live as long.
White Leghorn
The White Leghorn is another early laying breed that begins laying around 4-5 months also! They are often crossed with other breeds because of their awesome laying abilities, I have a White Leghorn and Araucana mix called the Prairie Bluebell Egger and this breed is just amazing!
Black Austrolorps-
The last early laying breed on my list is the Black Austrolorp. They will begin laying around 4-5 months like the other breeds above! To learn more about this breed read about it here.
