If you are raising chickens or you buy farm fresh eggs from your local farm then you must know how to store the eggs you get properly. There are many reasons why it is important to properly store them, so I am going to explain to you all the reasons why!
Why you should store your eggs pointy side down
The reason why it is important to store your eggs pointy side down is because air and bacteria can enter through the pores of the egg. There is an air sack at the blunt side of the egg which as the egg ages will become enlarged making it easier for bacteria to enter through the pores. That is why it is also important to keep the bloom on the egg until you are eating it. To learn how to properly wash eggs read here. If you remove the bloom and don’t refrigerate your eggs you are just asking for bad bacteria to enter.

When an egg is stored pointy end up the air sack will begin to rise slowly up towards the yolk allowing bacteria and air in it. If that does happen you are way more likely to get salmonella poisoning. So by storing your eggs pointy side down the air sack will will be on top (the blunt end) where it belongs. This will also help to keep your your eggs fresh for longer!

So do yourself a favor and always make sure that you store you eggs properly!
