There are multiple reasons why every homestead needs a good barn cat. They will be able to help you with some issues you may be facing with rodents. Which is a win-win for everyone! Now, let’s get into the reasons of why you need a barn cat.

-1 They keep the rodent population down
If you live in the country then you will definitely know how many rodents there are. It seems like they are just everywhere, but the good news is that if you get a good barn cat or two they will eat up all the rodents! Depending on how big your property is you might need a few more cats than someone with smaller acreage, to keep up on the population. We have a couple barn cats and some feral cats that hang around and I have yet to see a live mouse anywhere on our property!
-2 They are low maintenance
Barn cats are extremely low maintenance, all you really have to do is provide them food, water, and shelter. It really doesn’t get any easier than that! And if you have any feral cats around your property you can put some food on your porch to encourage them to hang around. We feed the feral or stray cats around our property and they hunt all the rodents in our area.

-3 They are adorable and cuddly companions
One of our barn cats came to us from nowhere, and she was the sweetest cat ever so we kept her! She is so cuddly and just loves to sit on your lap. She follows me everywhere I go and loves to keep me company! Both of our barn cats love attention and cuddles. Barn cats make great companions!

I sure love my barn cats! They have a very important role on the homestead.
